Jung

i have been just reading some Jungian philosophy for the first time, and have become very intersted in his ideas of balance and opposites.

If I am only half a persona I may choose to find my other half and live through them forever remaining just one half.

But I may choose to become a whole, and for my other half to also become a whole would be an ideal situation.

To depend on some other half is to reinforce the distinctions between the two. The more one stays true to himself, the more polorised one gets. And the more unlike oneself your other half becomes. This is a bad situation that will only get worse. Balance is the key to wholeness, becoming perfect is a folly as perfection is out of balance and completely one sided.
