Just wondering what a martyr is and whether it is a good way to go in any given situation. I was thinking that a Maryr was an easy escape for people wishing to gain fame, popularity, and a following.

Having read the definition I don't think it is. Perhaps there are false martyrs; people who took a large sacrifice themselves, and got a mass of followers, but did so to become a martyr and therefore where in it for the wrong reasons.
