In this day and age I find it difficult to understand the Christian faith's need to retain any link to the past. 

Very few individuals respect the church, let alone worship a god whom is neither loving or wrathsome. So when I hear a priest on the radio telling the country that his churches attempt to modernise is wrong, and the bible should remain a work of ambiguous scripture instead of rewording for the modern tongue, I despair. 

If the church can remain a small and insignificant study for the pleasure of classically trained academics, then I have no problem with it.
